During the Renaissance period, artists experimented with a style of drawing called Chiaroscuro. Look at some of DaVinci’s sketches and you’ll see exactly what Chiaroscuro drawings look like. Earthy colours are often used, and light and dark values take on a slightly different look. In the tangling world we also love to play with colours on renaissance tiles and tan paper. There are a wealth of materials to choose from when you look around. The boxes you find at the local dollar store, even paper bags suddenly look enticing.
